With the popularity of metal gazebos one may think that the wooden gazebo is on the brink of extinction and for sure, it's popularity is not any near to what it was in the past. Regardless, there is something in a wooden gazebo that separates it from any other and that something is history.
While chosing a gazebo style normally involves the use artifical shapes and non-organic materials, a wooden gazebo is most of the time strictly based on a certain historic period concept. Putting simple four poster, low walls, pitching roof designs aside, the most popular one is mostly seen used in homes with a Victorian touch, but not strictly limited to. Those concept's main characteristic is the lack of doorways and feature webbed faces or walls which supply a semi private alcove for the people inside. White paint is the preferable choice here, as well as any light color. Another often seen feature of the wooden gazebo are posts for the lattices and support for the ceiling.
If we take a look to the Eastern Hemisphere an Oriental shape can be found, corresponding well with plants and flowers around umpteen assorted gazebos that are resonant from that heritage. The very popular Chinese styled roofs and designs influenced by wooden gazebo as seen in Japanese style, and Chinese influenced gardens, is something to have in mind.
As the original purpose of any gazebo is to provide shelter from the elements, the wooden gazebo serves well as such and in addition as a decoration or a fixture to enhance the enchantment of the garden. Sometimes used as a center pl ace of the garden, the wooden gazebo is cool and at the same time ornamental. Engaging in the view and serenity of one's garden is something a lot of people savor while staying in a wooden gazebo.
Something in addition to have in mind is that most modern wooden gazebos are made from FSC-approved, enviromentally efficient timber, which is pressure treated to give all-weather protection against rot. Thus, depending on what you want to achieve, the wooden gazebo may or may not be right for you.
