Backyard gazebos are structures that add a comfortable and classy seating area for you to entertain guests or to spend time by yourself enjoying the outdoors. They are often situated in an area where one can gaze onto pretty areas of your property such as a garden, pond, or place to watch wildlife.

Backyard gazebos have historically been designed as octagon-shaped wooden structures with open side walls. Modern backyard gazebos have the option of adding screens to the open side walls and offer other materials than wood to build the gazebo's frame and roof. In addition, the shape of the modern backyard gazebo can be rectangular, square, oval, circular, or just about any other shape a person desires. Some backyard gazebos are designed to be permanent; other backyard gazebos are made of lightweight yet sturdy materials that can be set up and broken down and moved from location to location as desired. Backyard gazebos are most noted for use as a seating and entertainment area but they can also be used as a home office, an exercise room, a potting shed, playhouse for the kids, or to house a spa or sauna.
