Cedar Gazebo

Cedar is a Smart and Attractive Choice for Building a Gazebo

Gazebos nowadays are made with a variety of building materials but most consumers still consider wood the most popular and aesthetically pleasing. Several kinds of wood can be used to build a gazebo and everyone has their favorite, but cedar is one of the most popular wood choices for a variety of reasons.

Cedar is a gorgeous wood. It not only looks classy but it has a wonderful earthy fragrance that is retained long after the wood is transformed from tree to building material. This fragrance is due to the natural oils in the wood and this oil prevents decay from moisture and mold as well as acts as a natural insect repellant. The color of cedar varies from light tawny shades to deep reds and rich browns. The color of natural cedar will remain beautiful for years but people who want to paint or stain their cedar gazebo will find that cedar holds these substances better than other woods do. Some contractors recommend pressure treating cedar to increase its longevity but others remain purists and build with untreated wood. Small air pockets are inherent in cedar and these air pockets make for an excellent natural insulator from temperature changes; the air pockets are also what makes cedar lightweight and in spite of its lightweig ht nature, it is incredibly strong and tends to resist warping and bending over time.
